Looking for a Swag? Here’s a few tips

Product NameLooking for a swag and you are not too sure what to look for? There are a few different things to consider.

The first thing to check is the quality of the canvas, a good Polly cotton blend and at least a 12oz, the higher oz the better.
All swags will have some condensation how much they have depends on the weather and the breathability of the canvas.

The next important thing to check is the quality of the zips if the swag doesn’t have good heavy duty zips then keep looking.
If the zips fail the swag is useless. There is nothing more frustrating than poor quality zips, that pull apart or jam up. Once the zips are broken you may as well throw the swag in the bin as this will be a reflection of a poor quality swag.

If you are looking at buying a dome swag check the poles, make sure that they are not made of cheap fibre glass, as they usually splinter and split up the centre after a very short time.
If you do choose a swag with fibre glass poles check the warranty some brands offer a life time warranty which means they back up their product.

The fly mesh is a very important part to look at when thinking to purchase a swag. Check that the mesh is ultra fine sand fly proof especially for camping in the tropics.
See if the design of the swag allows for the mesh to be elevated off your body.
Because if the mesh lies on your body the mozzies will still bite you through the mesh, it won’t matter how fine the fly mesh is.

Now last but certainly not least is your comfort, the mattress!

This will depend on your size and weight which size mattress will suit you better.
Most people that I camp with have over time replaced the original swag mattress with a self inflatable mattress that suites their size, which I have done too and I have not looked back.
